The announcement by Michael Gove, Education Secretary to significantly upgrade the level of computing training is excellent news for pupils, teachers and the nation as a whole. Pupils will be engaged by far more interesting and rewarding topics and teachers will have a far more intellectually challenging topics to teach.
What does this mean for IT?
Achieving this vision will require the appropriate IT infrastructure which is a further argument against the latest fad of hosted solutions where the lack of flexibility and poor interactive performance will severely impact the pupil’s user experience and cause them to rapidly lose interest in the subject. Teachers will need infrastructures that allow pupils to install and configure operating systems, databases, development tools, migrate software etc. themselves and not be dependent onĀ requesting a remote 3rd party to do this for them. Exciting times ahead.
Agile ICT’s founders have significant expertise in creating large scale mission critical applications for industry. This means we have the experience and expertise to create the ICT infrastructures that are critical to underpin and enable the proper teaching of computing. Agile ICT has already started work on its innovative new offering to meet this new and exciting vision for the learning of computing, Agile ICT SandBox.
So, what is Agile ICT Sandbox?
SandBox is our new offering to enable schools to achieve the future vision for computing learning as detailed by the Education Secretary at BETT i.e. a move from how to use basic applications to possessing the skills to create things, including programmes, with computers.
SandBox is unique to Agile ICT and represents a holistic solution exclusively for schools. To be sure you are not left behind or stuck with an unsuitable ICT infrastructure supplied by people who don’t understand this radically different requirement, speak to one of our Account Managers.
